I took a class with Mike Breen, founder of 3DM and was both challenged and encouraged in my walk with the Lord and passion for discipleship.  He has developed some incredible tools designed to help people make disciples.  The “Learning Circle” is one of my favorite tools because it is designed to help us see the process of how God work in our lives and respond accordingly.  Years ago when I the pastor of Harvest Jupiter I had a similar concept (ENCOUNTER ENGAGE EXPERIENCE) that I am going to adapt and develop to help people understand how to engage in the process of hearing from the Lord.  “Safe House” is a ministry that looks to make and multiply disciples.

Encounter:  Simply put, these are the moments God begins speaking to us.  Think Moses in the wilderness, encountering the burning bush.   The key to walking in step with God’s Spirit is recognizing when God is getting our attention.  These moments can be seasons of crisis, critical decisions, new opportunities, or simply the still small voice of God’s spirit.  The point is, we want to recognize the moments when God is getting our attention.

Engage:  The worst thing we can do, when we encounter God, is walk away without getting clarity.  Unfortunately, too many have been condition to ignore these moments.  God warns us in Hebrews 3:15  “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts…”  When we sense God is speaking, we need to engage Him.  This means we seek wisdom from the community we are connected to.  This means diving into the Word of God to test what we think God wants.  The goal is to clarify what God is asking us so we can respond accordingly.

Experience:  The manifest presence of God comes when His people walk in obedience to Him!  We don’t frequently experience God’s power because we are not often on the same page as Him.  He has called us to be on mission, His mission.  The power of God is available to the people of God who are abandoned to the purpose of God.

Making disciples is nothing more than teaching people to Encounter, Engage, and Experience God through Christ Jesus.
